Matej Drašček graduated finished his master degree at University of Ljubljana, Slovenia and is now pursuing the doctoral studies on the topic of ethical decision making.  


He began his professional career at OTIS, multinational lift company, in which he was in 5 months promoted to HR and safety manager, where he and his team won the Award for Best Slovenian Safety Project as well as participate at EU competition for Safety at work representing Slovenia. After 5 years, he took over as managing director of Biring Biro, struggling office supply and printing company, which he turned around in two years. After successful turnaround, he took over position of director of shared services in Radeče papir nova, paper production company, where he helped developed and implemented modern HR tools into the company and was responsible for areas of legal and general affairs, IT and HR. After three years, he changed his profession and career and is now chief audit executive in regional retail bank, LON d.d., where he is still today.


During all this, he has been a teaching assistant at Faculty of Economics by Strategic management as well as guest lecturer at other universities and faculties. He has published numerous professional and scientific international articles mainly on topics of HR, business ethics, strategic management as well as internal audit. He was also a member of supervisory board of Radio Television Slovenia (RTV).


He holds Slovenian certification for internal auditor, as well as CIA (won the William S. Smith CIA – Certificate of Honors Award) and CRMA.

Concurrent session 5.1 - Is audit of strategy out of reach for internal auditors?  No, it is not.

Internal auditors often lack the tools and methodologies to audit strategy development and implementation for their organizations. By understanding the needed competencies for tackling a strategy audit, internal audit can help improve governance, risk management, and internal controls in an organization’s strategic management process.
Main objectives of the presentation are:
• Present the importance of strategic risk in relations to other risks;
• Present and show the four step process of strategy development and implementation;
• Present the tools and methodologies to audit strategy development and implementation;
• Present the main risks of each step of strategy development and implementation.
